Cakes, Kids Art Show, News…

We often get questions about whether or not we make gluten-free cakes  and the answer is a resounding, “Yes”! We have a wide variety of special occasion cakes to choose from.  If you’ve been in the bakery lately to try one of our new cupcake creations, like the Mexican Hot Chocolate, or Cinnamon Peach Compote, Vegan German Chocolate, etc., then you should know that we can make those into cakes. We also offer vegan cake options, so keep us in mind when planning your next birthday, Dia de los Muertos party, wedding shower or special event. Call us with 48 hours notice to place your order: 503.546.4901.

The Harvest for Hunger Kids Art Show is in full swing. We’re gathering wonderful art work and preparing for the Artists Reception on Thursday, October 7th, from 2-5 p.m..  All kids are welcome to participate in the show and everyone is invited to the reception of course. There will be live music, a collective art project to help with and free gluten-free treats. Besides, all the proceeds from the sales will go directly to the Oregon Food Bank! We have a collection bin at the bakery for non-perishable foods, too.

Lastly, I want to share some news with everyone and celebrate the success of one of our suppliers. Barb Foulke of Freddy Guys Hazelnuts is in the current issue of Martha Stewart’s Living magazine. It’s a great feature and Barb is a great person and farmer to support. She has been supplying us with hazelnuts since Chris and I started in 2007 at the Portland Farmers Market! Pick up an issue of the magazine and beam with Oregon pride as you read her story. Congratulations, Barb.

Skylor Powell is a customer of ours and the founder of Sprout Health.  Sprout Health is a new health coaching and donation based yoga studio that is offering gluten-free/dairy-free cooking workshops in October. She will be using our bread in her workshops and I’m sure the classes will benefit anyone looking for healthy, gluten-free/dairy-free fare that supports a healthy lifestyle.

Thanks again for your business!

What’s New?

OK, so you know that everything we make is gluten-free. Did you know we are constantly working on bringing you new and innovative artisan quality breads and pastries? We have recently debuted a new German Chocolate Cupcake (vegan and non-vegan), a Cinnamon Peach Cupcake, Vanilla Latte Cupcake, Chocolate Mint Cupcake (vegan too) and a one-of-a-kind Pink Champagne Cupcake, just to mention a few. All of these are available as full sized cakes as well.

Not to mention our sandwiches and pizzas that are so good, you won’t notice they are gluten-free. If you plan on having lunch at the bakery you can ask to have your sandwich grilled (it really makes it great). Fresh squeezed lemonade is made daily and is not too sweet or too sour-it’s just right.

More wholegrain breads are on the horizon and we are working on removing potato starch from many (if not all) breads.

We are working on vegan and soy free treats, vegan pies and get ready…ice cream sandwiches with our house made ice cream! We may have a vegan “ice cream” sandwich too, so keep your eyes peeled for some delectable delicacies showing up in the bakery and at the farmers markets.

As always, thank you for your patronage!

Snailpeople! Kids’ Musical Duo Performs on the 18th

We are so excited to have Snailpeople! perform at the bakery on Wednesday, August 18th, from 2:00-3:00. I first saw them perform at the NW 23rd Avenue Farmers Market (we have a booth there Thursday afternoons) and my little one and I were captivated!

They are an eclectic and exuberant duo who create a very interactive, fun musical environment that encourages singing and dancing along.

We will have mini cupcakes available at a special price and all of our other gluten free goodies will be on hand for the whole family to enjoy as you get down and get silly!

Call or e-mail the bakery to RSVP: 503.546.4901

New Gluten Free Lunch Options Are Here!

You asked for it, and we have delivered…SANDWICHES! Made on our fresh baked Seeded Bread and loaded with great lunch time favorites. We always make vegan and vegetarian choices each day, too. Hungry for a pastrami or turkey & avacado sandwich on one of our outdoor tables? What about a portabella &  goat cheese (or soy cheese) sandwich with a San Pellegrino to go? The menu is evolving, so the choices may be different from day to day.

Don’t forget the greens, either. We have a chicken salad or a mixed greens salad to help round out your meal. We make our own dressing that is light, bright and tangy. Pick up a quiche of the day and you’ve got it all.

Sandwiches and Pizzas are available daily starting at 11:00.

Let us know what you think & what you would like to see in the future. Hope to see you soon.

We Will Be At The NW 23rd Ave. Farmers Market Starting Today!

Farmers markets are going full swing beginning this month and we are really excited to participate in the NW Portland Farmers Market (part of the Portland Farmers Market) starting this afternoon. It’s the neighborhood where we got our retail start and we are putting down our roots again, so to speak, each Thursday afternoon from 3:00-7:00. The market is located at the corner of NW 23rd Avenue and NW Savier, next to the Old Lompoq and across from Besaw’s.

Support the market, get the best, freshest foods, enjoy the music and grab your gluten free goodies while you’re at it. This afternoon should be hopping with activity: First Thursday in the Pearl, Fit Right NW’s First Thursday Urban  Adventure Run, and of course the allure of 23rd Avenue itself. So stop by and say, “Hello”!

We’ll be glad to see you.
